Philadelphia, PA

I took a quick trip to Philly to visit Dr. Pickles (pictured to the right) and also I suppose my cousin Olivia, who goes to Temple University.
We had originally planned for quite a studious day, as we both had work of sorts to finish. This work was of equal measure, to be sure; Olivia was studying for several neuroscience exams, while I read about coffee beans in my “Curious Barista” book I ordered on Amazon (I still am not allowed to touch the espresso machine at work, by the way). The weather, however, was too perfect to pass up the opportunity to head over to Old City Philly, where Elfreth’s Alley would be looking especially aesthetic, and more importantly, where we'd have the chance to visit Paddy’s Pub (not pictured).
Before we went over, Olivia decided to bring me to a beloved Temple University café called Richie’s. There are two locations on campus as far as I know, one of them being on “the wall,” which is exactly what it sounds like. We did not go to this one, but we did pass by it and I watched iced coffees being passed out in the hundreds. Over at the other Richie’s, I ordered an iced Cookie Butter Latte, which was absolutely delicious. And to cut the sweetness of the drink, I just had to order a savory egg and cheese on brioche. Also quite good.
Over in Old City Philly, one of our stops was a used book store called The Book Trader, which featured an abundance of options in any category of book that you could possibly imagine. I especially enjoyed the theatre/plays section, which is not always guaranteed at bookstores. You could probably spend an eternity in this shop and still not sift through everything. It’s definitely worth spending a lot of time in there, AND as a bonus, there is a cat. As previously mentioned.
We also ate at Prunella for lunch, and afterwards I got a small scoop of Honeycomb ice cream from Van Leeuwen. The ice cream was an incredible $8 for a very small amount, BUT I payed it because the honeycomb flavor is divine. Sometimes it’s worth it.
Overall a very successful trip to Philly! Thank you to my cousin for hosting me and allowing me to take a necessary mid day nap after our adventures.
