Home, At Last!

Atlantic Highlands, NJ

September 2nd, 2024

It has been almost a week since I stepped foot into one of Almost Home’s several locations.

After an early morning shift at my part-time coffee shop job, I decided to join my friends on a journey to — you guessed it — another coffee shop! I am beginning to wonder if the smell of coffee grounds will ever become distasteful to me.

Anyway, I was quite surprised to see The Red General Store had transformed into a café. I really have no ground to stand on for this shock, however, because I only ever drove by and heard about this landmark store in my youth (i.e. between the ages of 0-7, the first time I lived in New Jersey). Also, I have not gotten into the habit of reading my local newspaper just yet, otherwise I might have known about this change sooner. But alas, I know now and will surely be going back.

Having been to Almost Home’s location in Lincroft, where the farm-to-table vibe is strong, I had high expectations for this storefront. The décor did not disappoint — with a warm & vintage feel — and neither did the coffee. I just got a basic cold brew with some oat milk, as I was feeling a bit sluggish and didn’t have the energy for a super fun drink (does that make sense?). It was pretty solid. When I return I will have to try another one of their many drinks they have to offer.

Not pictured: a whole wall of color-coordinated books! A beautiful assortment.
