Hoboken, NJ

Hoboken wasn’t exactly how I imagined it’d be.
To be fair, the only concept I previously had of this place was the image of my friend who always said the name with a shudder. He is, in fact, from Hoboken. When we used to walk through Riverside Park and look across the Hudson, I would always express how much I love New Jersey, and he’d just shake his head. It’s okay, Hoboken, don’t listen to him, I like you enough for the both of us.
Anyway, I was there for a photo shoot to update my acting headshots, so I took advantage of being in a new place and tried out a coffee shop, a bakery, and a bookshop. All in about an hour! Such joy!
First, I went to Joboken ( @jobokencafe ) for coffee. I ordered a cortado because I wanted to learn what exactly a cortado was. A cortado is a drink that originates from Spain, where the shot of espresso is cut with milk in a 1:1 ratio ("cortar" means to cut). So, my academic mission was a success and the cortado, too, was delicious. It’s such a cute place, with a little outdoor seating section if you’re planning on staying a while, but also perfect to grab and go.
Then, I went to a little bakery called Baking Mama (@iambakingmama ) which was not in the plan, but I couldn’t pass it by after I saw someone emerge with one of their cookies. I got a chocolate chip sea salt cookie and a purple yam (ube) cookie for myself, and the gluten free chocolate chip one for my mom. We both give this bakery 10/10 full, bright, shining stars. SO GOOD.
My last official stop was Little City Books ( @littlecitybooks ), which is on a cute little street corner. I am obsessed with the blue color scheme of the storefront, and audibly gasped when I saw the ladder for the shelves inside. Listen, there’s just something special about a library ladder. It’s so chic. They had such a great collection of notebooks, cards, and books (ofc).
Finished my adventure in Hoboken with sitting by the water to enjoy my cookies, and then walking through the Italian festival that they had going on that day (unbeknownst to me before I arrived to the waterfront). It was a glorious day.
